Continuum of Care | Departments

Services Overview

Annually, millions of dollars worth of pharmaceuticals and equipment are procured by HOPE worldwide and its partners. Major partners include American Schools, Hospitals Abroad (ASHA) and AmeriCares.

Non-restricted funds from World Mate and other donors are essential in supporting the core operating costs involved in giving free medical care. Restricted funds in the form of grants broaden the hospital's impact.

Highly skilled specialists from around the world donate their time and talents to train human resources and to build infrastructure. HOPE worldwide staff form a corps of passionate professionals who live year round in Cambodia. Academic institutions such as ITM and Brown University lend considerable expertise. Volunteer organizations like HVO are playing an increasing role.

Also, many donations are used by our Continuum of Care program. Over 1,000 patients receive ART HIV drugs on a regular basis through this innovative program. Patients diagnosed with HIV at SHCH are sent to the CRC, the Community Resources Center, for counseling, group meetings, ART drug distribution, and routine doctor's visits. CCF, Chronic Care Facility, is a hospice center dedicated solely to the critical nursing care of HIV/AIDS patients who are too acutely ill to be cared for at their homes.

Patient Care

Over 300 patients receive medical treatment each day in home, clinic, hospital, and hospice settings. Over 1,000 HIV/AIDS patients receive antiretroviral therapy. The HIV/AIDS program in the Infectious Disease Department has carried out nearly 70,000 home care visits since its inception.. Our trained surgeons also perform 20 operations/day and have performed nearly 40,000 surgeries for poor Cambodians in just 10 years of service. Our corps of trained internal medicine doctors rotate through the outpatient medical clinic, which is defining chronic disease care management for the country.

Education

SHCH clinical staff regularly attend training in the hospital and at times outside of the country. Experienced medical professionals from first world countries such as the United States, Australia, and Great Britain come to SHCH to provide training and teaching in their areas of expertise. Furthermore, SHCH collaborates with other institutions in Cambodia to provide both undergraduate and postgraduate education for medical professionals. Training the next generation of Cambodian medical professionals is at the heart of the SHCH's mission.

Research

We know that improved knowledge and understanding translates into better medical care. SHCH doctors are actively engaged in research and some have traveled to such places as Antwerp, Belgium; Bangkok, Thailand; and Sydney, Australia to present their findings. These studies are relevant not only to Cambodia, but they also benefit other resource-poor countries.

Capacity Building

Provincial Outreach

SHCH is building capacity for the nation by working in remote provinces via referral hospital strengthening telemedicine programs. With the limited availability of doctors in rural communities, it is a great service to Cambodians to have access to first-world medical specialists. SHCH doctors and nurses regularly travel to these under-served remote areas to provide much-needed medical care. Additionally, in partnership with the Center of Connected Health in Boston and with the help of modern technology, the Telemedicine Program allows our clinicians to obtain assistance from highly specialized experts.

Phnom Penh Partnership

In Phnom Penh, SHCH collaborates with Kossamak and Municipal hospitals to help strengthen and build expertise in these institutions.

Medical Supplies Donation

From time to time, SHCH shares the resources donated by corporations and institutions by donating them to other hospitals and institutions in the country, such as the Heart Center, Calmette and Kossamak Hospitals, and the Cambodian Red Cross.

Support and Participation

SHCH's active participation in the CCC (GFATM), MEDiCAM, and various technical working groups has helped the entire country.
